However, the upgrade of transmission systems faced many factors in cost, speed, and distance. Polarization division multiplexing combined with direct detection (PDM-DD) is a promising way to significantly improve the transmission rate of short reach systems. Three popular PDM-DD approaches were analyzed in Stokes vector space theoretically, in which, their performance are investigated by simulation with uniform model parameters. %U https://journal.bupt.edu.cn/EN/10.13190/j.jbupt.2017.02.004
